Masdevallia in S/H? Female
Default Masdevallia in S/H?

I repotted my new acquired masdevallia in S/H using LECA. It is in a tall pot with a holes about 1" from bottom so the water stays 1". I am flushing it about every 3 days and spray several times per day. It is growing inside in the coolest level of my house.
My question is - is it moist enough for madie? I understand that it is hard to answer but I am curious how do you grow yours in S/H?

Thanks!

I am sorry i should have specified that. S/H means - SEMI-HYDROPONIC, where instead of usual medium there are small clay balls (for me at least, but other non-breaking down medium can be used). There is a lot of info on the web, and people successfully growing different kinds of orchids in s/h, but i am wondering if i have masdie and lets say phal potted in the same medium and out of both of them masdie needs more moisture how do I supply it correctly.

What I did was take two 500ml water bottles and cut them in half, threw away the top part, and cut square holes in each. I filled one with the clay pellets and used the other as a cover for increased humidity. So far, 4 months later, I have yet to loose the cutting of the Masdie Jewel I chose as the guinea pig. I have not seen any new growth or roots but at least I have not lost it.

That is great idea Tindomul - to cover them! I planted masdies into plastic drinking cups and a bottle would fit great over them as a cover- perhaps 1L or 2L bottle cut in half. How much light do you give them?

I have natural diffused window light on it. Make sure you cut holes on the cover so that it can get cross ventilation as well.
