OK, living in NE Florida and dying to be able to grow Masdies has, over the years, proven to be a delicate thing to achieve.
I bought a large flat of these beauties last spring - tried very hard to make sure they were kept at least in cooler temps than my other small chids. Going on vacation in July proved to be a concern for the plants that needed to be kept moist and shaded. Not really having a choice, we put the large tray in the greenhouse and hoped for the best. Bear in mind that July and August in NE Florida is HOT HOT HOT!!!
When we came back we noticed that most if not all of them had new growth and the foliage was nice and dark green. They've been blooming ever since. The plant pictured has 7 spikes, 5 open flowers and 3 buds.
HOLY COW BATMAN!
I have another in the same sized pot - plant is a little bigger but it has 10 spikes and 4 buds!
I guess my point (taking the long way around) is that if you live in warm climates and you've always wanted to grow Masdies then see if you can locate this cross! When temps warm up I will certainly be willing to share these guys (as long as supplies last...)
Enjoy!
