Masdevallia 'Mary Staal'
There is a yellow form of Masdevallia Mary Staal, quite big flowers and the form is mostly fine.
The parents are M. coccinea x M. Angel Frost.

I have one of these as well - it is a very nice hybrid, seems very tough too - I have almost killed it 3 times - argh! But it hangs on and keeps trusting me. I think I have now cought on to the right care - intermediate temps, growing in sphagnum moss in a clay pot, medium indirect light, and regular very light fertilizing. Does that sound right to you Joule? Thanks for sharing your lovely picture. How do you grow your plants where you are in Finland?

dr_dmd, your growing methods are just like mine. Indirect light, recular waterings and only slightly fertilizing.
Important is that you grow them in cool or intermediate conditions. All my plants are still out in my garden. Temperature is now about +2-8 C at nights, but my masdies are happy.
I have to give them extra light at winter months ( november-february), i also reduce watering at that time.

That is so pretty, and I like the big flowers. I decided to try Masdas again, after killing a couple, so I ordered 5, I didn't want them to get lonely. I also think I may not kill these as quickly if I have more than one tiny pot sitting alone.
A couple of these were in bloom when they arrived but I am a bit dissapointed because the flowers are so tiny.

Marilyn, you have a right attitude, after killing some, you decided to order more. I like that.
