Default Alaticaula rechingeriana

Formerly known as Masdevallia rechingeriana up until the genus was broken up. I got this one a couple months ago with an old spike which, as you can see, has now bloomed (it's a sequential bloomer). I'm not sure, but I think I can see another bud getting ready inside this one's sheath.

Enjoy!

EDIT: Oops! Got the spelling of the genus name wrong, should be Alaticaulia

Thanks for the compliments everyone! Tindomul, I got this one from a member of my orchid society who often has a few plants from his collection for sale at meetings; this was his last piece of this plant. Whenever I buy orchids, I try to buy them as close to home as I can. That way I can avoid shipping as IMO it's pretty expensive and more often than not you need to get permits.

I've got some bad news on this one. While I was watering my terrarium plants today, one slipped out of my hand and landed on top of this one. Luckily, both plants came away unharmed, exept for this flower which got shredded in the mesh false-bottom of my terrarium. But there's still hope, I'm now certain that there's another flower on its way!

Cut the flower and press it. That way it will be with you forever!

Default UPDATE

The bud I saw coming behind the last flower that got shredded is now fully open. I won't bother posting pictures because it looks exactly the same as the other one, but I do have some interesting info on this one. When I was looking at the flower today I noticed two wet spots on the synsepal; I hadn't bee doing any watering, so I figured they must have been produced by the flower itsself. I gave the flower a sniff, and it's fragrant! As a bonus, it even smells nice! It's not a particularily powerful odour, but it's pleasantly sweet smelling... If that makes sense. Anyways, just thought I'd throw that out there since there aren't that many Masdies (or formerly Masdies) that are fragrant.
