Three Alatacualias - Orchid Board

These three used to be classified as Masdevallias (section Alaticaulia), but have been put in a genus of their own, along with other similar species:

Great flowers! I gotta wonder why it was that the taxonomists decided to slice and dice the genus... I'll have to call my Alaticaulia rechingeriana "The Orchid Formerly Known As Masdevallia" now.

To my eye the Masdevallias were all sufficiently alike that there Was not need to break up the genus, but I must admit that the same man who proposed these changes (Luer) has also broken up the genus Pleurothallis which needed doing.
