Default Masd. peristeria 'Sullivan's Gold'

This is a very large flowered Masdevallia with flowers that are about 6 inches from top to bottom on a plant that is about the same height. This particular clone opens more widely than some (IOSPE PHOTOS) and was awarded. I don't find this particularly easy to grow, but seem to have problems anyway with the larger Masdevallias.

Nice growing. I've heard this one is easy to grow in cool conditions, and the flowers are long lasting. So its a jewel to have really. Is this particular clone more yellow than the type species, or just the camera?

What do you mean by "particularly easy to grow"? I don't find any of the Masdies "easy" but they certainly are rewarding (if for no other reason than most can't provide the environment they covet.) This one certainly is different from any I already have.

This one does indeed require cooler temperatures. That is probably why I have some trouble with it. It is also more yellow than others and so its clonal name is 'Sullivan's Gold' - awarded a friend of mine with the surname "Sullivan."

Here's a picture of the flower in relation to the plant.

That is really nice.

I think Masdies are easy growers and very rewarding, if you can provide them the intermediate temps most require.

gorgeous plant... Congrats!

funny, there is so much of Dryadella in that flower, I would not be surprised if this species is transferred to this other genus in the future...
