Default Drac and Masdies in bloom

In bloom right now, from left to right:
• Dracula lotax – plant
• Dracula lotax – bloom
I just caught this guy at the end (although it keeps sending out spikes) of a bloom cycle. It must have had at least 20-25 blooms at it’s peak. It’s my first Dracula (not cool enough for most species), and seems to be doing well. Had it for about a year, and this is the second time it has bloomed (but just a few the first time). I’m, trying a couple of other warmth-tolerant types, so we’ll see how they do.

• Masdevallia tuerckheimii – plant
• Masdevallia tuerckheimii – bloom
Another one that is through the best of it’s bloom. These are the last few (and no more new spikes).

• Masdevallia Joyce Stewart
One of my favorites. The flowers are good-sized, about 1 ½” high x 1” wide, excluding “whiskers”, and seem to come every couple of months. Only one this time, but this plant has had 5 at once . . . very colorful. Since I have only intermediate (at the “low end” of my range) growing conditions, not cool at all, I can’t grow some of the really large and colorful ones.

Very nice Ed!

I love seeing photos of these interesting plants...it is too warm for me to grow them here in southwest Florida, so I have to enjoy them vicariously.

I appreciate your post.

Sweet! They're wonderful Ed! I'm impressed. The Joyce Stewart is incredible! I can just imagine that one covered in blooms. It must really be a sight!

Mine are all currently out of bloom. I moved them to a much brighter location on the grow shelf and they're sending out new growths like crazy. Hopefully, they'll put on a nice show after awhile.

Thanks . . . but I envy your Vandas. I struggle with mine. You have some great pictures in your gallery, so thanks for those.

Thanks Ed...I'm glad that you like the photos. I guess in a way we all get to enlarge our virtual collections through others' posts. Very cool in my eyes.
