I'm starting to get into Masdies more and more (I have 7 right now) because I have found that they are much more forgiving of temps than originally put forth. I tend to have cooler temps overnight even in warm summers (like 70s - 21-25C) and really cool in winter like 16C (62F) so I started a collection and they like me!

Camille, look for temperature tolerant hybrids. They are out there. I have 4. Now to get them to rebloom. I think I need to move them to a brighter spot.

Thanks for the info, it's useful! I'll keep an eye out for the temp tolerant hybrids.
Summers in Lyon itself get quite hot, with nights between 25 and 30°C during the really hot times. However, if I spent the summer at the family country house, nights average 13°C and below there, which could be do-able for the masdies. It all depends where I spend my summer, and if I'm even in france then!

Terri, they like really high light. Mine get full sun whenever it shines. They are in a south window. Mine have been reblooming on same spikes.

Does that hold true also for the species masdies, or only for these hybrids? I can move mine into nearly full sourthern sun if I need to.

I think any Masdie can take up to 2000 FCs (20,000 lux) easily, probably up to 30,000 lux. Therefore at your latitude (you are close to 45 degrees N right?) I would say sort of full sun. In other words, what I would describe as sun through the leaves of other plants. Pretty darned bright. Mine are exposed to full sun filtered through a couple dendros that need full blazing sun (for my latitude). I think we are nearly the same latitude. You would be looking for light green leaves. If your window has a screen, that should do fine to filter the light. Use a light meter to be sure.

Thanks for the tip Ross, I'll move them up behind the Catts under the lights. The only problem with doing that is brighter in my grow space is also warmer.

Just a thought -- Maybe someone could start a new thread and list what they have and the conditions they have them in. I think it would help alot of us who are becomming more and more interested in them. I could get into these big time!
I need to find the warm tolerant growers for my conditions.
