Default Masdevallia in bloom

Here is Masdevallia amplexa and a hybrid, Masdevallia 'Joyce Stewart'. Both are intermediate growers, and handle my warm-intermediate greenhouse climate well.

I hope you like these too, Becca.

Great job, Ed, especially in AZ. The amplexa is a knock out.

My temps are 85 high, 65 low summer and 5 degrees less winter, and pretty steady within that range. Also plenty of humidity and good air movement.

I would ONLY buy a Masdevallia that was an intermediate or warm grower (there are a few). I have a couple dozen, and they seem to do alright for me in my greenhouse climate.

By the way, the TRUE color on the Joyce Stewart is much deeper/brighter and almost iridescent. BRIGHT! I can't seem to catch it in my photos, but the blooms are a real knockout! I've had it over a year now, and it has bloomed several times. Decent sized blooms too, the "face" is about 1/2-3/4 inches around.

I got it at J & L. Other good "informed" sources are Hoosier and Andy's (for species). Others too, of course, but I like these two vendors.
