Fragrant Masdevallias Male
Default Fragrant Masdevallias

I like fragrant orchids and have found that many masdevallias have fragrance though it is not widely reported. I had a masdevallia pyxis years ago and one could smell a rotten meat smell from the flower-though it was faint. I love the spicy smell of masdevallia meijiana and have read that masdevallia stobellii smells fruity. I am getting a masdevallia tovarensis and according to the catalog it is fragrant. My masdevallia foetens bloomed and it was fragrant, though not really in a good way! What are your fragrant masdevallia species like?

I don't have very many fragrant Masdevallias but I do have a few Porroglossum that have interesting fragrances.

P. condylosepalum, P. dalstroemii, P. portillae smell very sweet and fruity

P. uxorium smells like black licorice+plastic

P. tripollex smells like sweet feet stink

P. marniae and some clones of P. olivaceum smell sweet

I've heard that M. glandulosa smells of cloves, strongly.
