I noticed that a couple of Masdevallia species start to bloom more when it is pot bound. I probably can't generalize it since others seem to bloom without the pot-bound condition. But my M. rimarima-alba, M. melanoxantha were so tight in the pot, the roots were pushing them out of the pots. They were flowering crazy, but the leaves were starting to become paler due to nutrient deficiency (not due to root death), so I repotted into bigger pots. After that, they slowed down and started to do more vegetative growth. In this
blog post, there is a photo of the root. Around this time, it was still flowering only 2-4 flowers at a time, but the root became tighter after a couple more months, and they were flowering about 8 flowers at a time.
