Masdevallia .... for Beginner Male
Default Masdevallia .... for Beginner

I am determined to grow one of these, and I have just acquired two - both arrived in bud/spike and are now in flower. But, I would like to know if there are any Masd. that are "easier" to grow indoors. Looking for recommendations for any Masdevallia growers out there. Thanks.

I'll soon be joining your ranks, as I just placed an order earlier this week for my first Masd...a warm-tolerant hybrid called Masdevalia Snow Cone. Hopefully it works out!!!!

I haven't heard of that one, make sure you post a picture of it when you flower it.

Sounds interesting........

This is a link to the vendor's picture...I'll post a picture of mine when it flowers. It's in spike now so I shouldn't have to wait too long, right???

Most Masdevallias will grow inside but require cool conditions,no artificially heated room, and good air movement and humidity. They grow well in sphagnum moss which has the additional advantage of providing good humid conditions.Fertilise with a weak hydroponic mix about EC 4-6.

Hello,
I have a few Masdevallia. Maybe you should say what your temperature range is and humidity and other growning conditions... Here are my recommendations:

Masdevallia herradurae is easiest for me to grow and bloom and therefore one of my favorites.

Masd. tovarensis is easy to grow and is forgiving. I have had one for a couple years and although mature, I haven't bloomed it yet.

Masd. June Winn is pretty easy but I think it does prefer cool to bloom.

What state are you located in? We may be able to help you more if you give us some conditions...
