Default Masdevallia curtipes

Here's a Masdevallia from the southeast region of Brazil. It is a small sized plant as can be seen in the photo. The flowers segments are welded leaving only a narrow entrance for the pollinators. My plant is still small, so I have only one flower.

Isn't it an interesting Masdie? Dorothy, it is not cool grower, I mean, it grows well in intermediate temps and faces well our hot summer.

I've never seen anything like it either! It's interesting, indeed!

Do you ever have any of the Masd. spikes that have started to bud, dry up instead? This has happened to one of my Masd. recently but am not sure what to do to help the bloomers out.

I HAD two spikes with buds, now I only have one bud on one spike. It's very sad. lololol

Also, I am wondering, what is the plural of Masd.? This has been bothering me for some time. I know how to walk the walk but I don't know how to talk the talk.

Gwen, that never happened to my Masdevallias (buds drying up). Sorry I can't help with this.
As for the plural, Masdevallias, Masdies are normally used, but for Masd... well maybe Masds, but it sounds kinda strange...

Gwen - I found my masdies losing leaves and bud drying up .. but now I keep their feet wet and they seem to be improving .. (I leave a little water on the bottom of the cache the pot is sitting in which wicks into the medium keeping it constantly moist. My humidity here is very very low, I may not continue to do this with the coming of summer and the increase in humidity .. I'm still experimenting )

That is a nice color and morphology. Probably the only tube Masdie I am now interested in. hehe
