Lepanthopsis astrophora propagation? Keiki paste?
Default Lepanthopsis astrophora propagation? Keiki paste?

I have a nice-sized plant of this mounted in my terrarium, and I want to share it with a friend of mine. Does anyone know if keiki paste works on these?

I know keiki paste is normally applied to phals by making a small cut in the flower stalk, and obviously you can't do that with stalks the size of a thread, but I might just put some keiki paste right on the flower stalks once mine is done blooming. Or am I better off aiming for the leaf bases, where keikis normally grow for these guys?

I thought I might try dipping a needle in the paste and kinda scraping/pricking the stems to break the surface layer a little. This plant has a few dozen leaves, so I figure, worst-case scenario, it'll lose a couple and still be fine.

They are sympodial plants, so I’ll bet a simple division is the way to go.

I went to divide it today, and got scared. It's just so small and delicate, and mine is a tangled mess of stems and leaves, with moss grown around some of the bases. I chickened out. But it has at least two keikis growing already, and I found this little guy wedged in the back.

Any idea if this guy is blooming size? It's going to be a gift, and I'm wondering how long it'll be until it blooms. I assume less than a year.

I'm also not going to be doing this again, I think. Since I took it out of the terrarium and mussed it up, it no longer lays naturally along the branch, it's all rumpled. Now I have to wait for it to adjust again, and that takes a bit. I'll just cut any keikis that present themselves to be easily cut.
