Pleurothallis restrepioides
Default Pleurothallis restrepioides

This was a freebie I got as a small plant a couple of years ago.

It always produced keikis instead of spikes until I stopped fertilising it.

The blooms are supposedly scented but I haven't smelled anything from them yet.

Grown in an unheated room in a west facing window.

Nice one. I kinda see the similarity to Restrepia, but only in the patterns. Thanks for sharing.

It looks great! Can you tell any more about your care? E.g. the media you use, watering regime and if you know the humidity?

I have one that I got in July that looks fine but has only grown one new leaf (quite recently)! East facing bathroom window (humidity goes up to 100% for about an hour in morning, then 55 - 60% rest of time), coarse bark, kept moist. The Pleurothallis pellucida grown with it has fared the same. Temperature around 14 - 18C in the day, down to 14/15 at night (at the moment). I'm in central Scotland. Not sure what I'm doing wrong (if anything). The Platystele with them keeps growing all the time.

Thanks

My culture seems similar, mine is in an unheated bedroom, west facing window. I grow mine in medium bark and keep it in 2cm of water all year round, I water it twice a week. I found that if it dries out in the slightest then the new growth dries up.

Humidity in the house goes from about 30 to 55%

I'm in Glasgow, mine has plenty of keikis so if you want another, I'll pop one in the post. I haven't separated any, so don't know how they do once removed.

Very interesting about the water. I've already added some water to the bottom of the cover pot. I'd been trying to make sure to not let any of my orchids sit in water as all the advice I'd found said not to, but your results speak for themselves. I am thinking of adding some sphagnum to the mix.

That is great news as I was beginning to think it (and some others) needed higher humidity - and raising the humidity significantly would be a real pain! I've never seen my gauge read lower than 50% since getting it in August (East facing bathroom).

That's so kind of you, thank you! I think I might as well see if I can spur this one into action before adding more. Writhlington sell a lot of these, all propagated by keiki, so I guess they respond well.

I just joined the forum yesterday, so thank you for such a helpful reply

Just a quick update. Since you posted your first reply to me jcec1, I added 2cm water to the cover pot of first my Pleurothallis pellucida and then my Pleurothallis restrepioides a couple of weeks later and very quickly the P. pellucida and then P. restrepioides started growing masses of new roots - and still are. New leaves have started on each, again first on the P pellucida. Hopefully they'll now grow more strongly this year and flower in the winter.
