Evaporative Cooling Mat?
Where do I find an evaporative cooling mat? My home temps have been fine but as its warming up outside and I have only one Masdie, every other of my orchids needs warmer temps.
Thanks.

Not sure of your setup, but just about any of the spun metal furnace filters might work.

My question is if you build yourself, how do you keep the material wet?

My thinking was a small spun metal furnace filter with small holes drilled in top side. Hook up a drip irrigation system to drop water down through filter. Apply a large room fan outside tank and blow wet (cooled) air through tank.

I agree with that! I've seen a setup like this several times in the greenhouses of seed companies. They use a different material (some sort of corrugated cardboard) but it works the exact same way. These things are highly effective. I stood in front of one during a visit to a company, and it was chilly!

The reason for the furnace filter is a practical one - it doesn't rot or turn "funky" with constant moisture. Fiberglas, horsehair, etc. all will one day break down, plug or just get gross. When blowing bacteria around, that can lead to unhealthy conditions. The aluminum filters can be boiled, sprayed, what-have-you, to clear them up and clean them up for constant use. If I ever set up a "cool tank" I will try this method with a custom-built acrylic tank.

I can see how you can set up a cold terrarium this way. Get a drip system going, an internal fan, would epiweb work? So that would give you humidity, ventilation and cold temps. OoooH!!! Im excited about the possibilities. You could keep things like Masdies and salamanders.
Has anyone actually measured how cold it can get using this system?
