My first Masdevalia!
I'm fairly new to orchid growing - I bought this Masdevalia (Angel Tears) about a year ago, I repotted it in February, and now I have one flower and 4 more spikes! I also have two Phaelanopses in spike, including "chebae," a miniature.
I noticed some white spots which appear to be on the leaves in two of the pictures - those are artifacts from my camera, they're not on the plant itself.

Very nice
I'm so happy to see this one! I recently ordered a compot of Masdies and received this one instead of the one I ordered. I was curious as to what it would look like and now you've shown me...thank you
Where are you located? How are you growing yours?

Masdevalia Angel Tears
I'm in St. Paul, Minnesota, where snow is expected tomorrow. I have it in New Zealand sphagnum, in a plastic pot, on a south-facing window sill. I keep a humidifier running, so the humidity in my house is about 50% all winter, and I mist my plants every morning. I've read that Masdevalias like cool weather, and I turn my thermostat down to 55 at night, and I never turn it above 65 during the day, because I don't like heat. I'm not sure what I'm going to do this summer, but, I'll start by placing a fan near the orchids.

Thanks for the growing info
Being in Florida, it's always been hard to find a jewel-colored Masdie that would do well in the heat. Masd Angel Tears is one that has a chance of survival...I love yours and thanks for sharing it with us

I didn't know that Masdies grew in coffee? But hey, what ever works is okay with me. I don't have any Masdies but am a coffee aficianado, just might give it a try.

I bought this masdie at a wonderful place near Minneapolis called Orchids Limited. I've seen orchids for less elsewhere, but, Orchids Limited has very high quality orchids, and they have the best selection of neofinetias I've seen. They do a marvelous job of shipping, too, and their website is a good source of information:
