I have gone crazy photographing birds both in Ecuador and here at home...many sets on Flickr. Check out my sets: Familia Tangara; Jewels of the Air; Ecuador Birds; Barbets, Toucanets and Toucans; Wild Blue Yonder and Twitter...My Peeps. Also got into shooting pics of Dragonflys - set is Caballitos del Diablo.

Your pictures of the Olive-Golden Woodpecker and the White-breasted Nuthatch are amazing. Almost can't believe you did it without an SLR camera. Congrats.

I'm beginning to push up against the limits of my camera when it comes to photographing birds in flight. I up the shutter speed and with hummingbirds have used flash...but there is a delay after pushing the shutter button. Also cannot shoot multiple frames. Starting to look at DSLRs and longer telephotos (do I pick Canon or Nikon...wish Fuji would produce some long teles for their DSLR) Sometimes I get lucky as with these shots.

Some great shots.

Even with a DSLR it can be a matter of luck when photographing birds or other fast moving wildlife. With the Cannon range the delay before the shutter, and the time between multiple shots, gets faster the more expensive the camera. Our 60D is far far better than our old compact but is nothing compared to the higher models... so while you dream of a DSLR, I dream of a faster DLSR

They should quote what these speeds are in the specifications so if it's a point that interests you make sure you check out what they are and which make gets you fastest for the least price.

Thanks for the kind words Rosie and Veekay. Photography has been a hobby for years since my father gave me an Argus C-3. I finally switched to digital only in July of last year...after a long holdout, and must admit I'm taking more photos than I ever did before. However, when I look at the photos of other wildlife photographers, I realize there's still much more to learn
