Default Ghost Town

Thought some might be interested in seeing pictures from a hike we did last summer that took us through the old mining town, now a ghost town, of Monte Cristo, and through Poodle Dog Pass to Silver Lake. The old mining town alone was worth the hike, but we saw some beautiful scenery and unusual wildflowers as well. We were actually looking for a rare orchid, Platanthera chorisiana, but did not find it. Most of the pictures, I should add, are my wife's.

The mountains here are incredible, Bud. We never tire of them and there is always something new to see.

Thanks, Drew. This was the only place I ever saw the plant, the Gnome Plant, and it's so rare that it isn't even in my Washington wildflowers book. Its leafless and without chlorophyll as well, monotropic or saprophytic.

Ron I have to admit, I something refrain from looking at your post. I end up spending way to much time looking at all those incredible shots. then when I realize how long I've been looking, no time to leave a comment. But please don't ever stop posting them.

Most of these places, Paul, are within a couple of hours from where we live or from Seattle. You have to be very careful about coming out here, though, because you might not go back.
