If you want a nice marco lens, Tamron makes a pretty good one, the 90mm f/2.8. It's cheaper than the brand lens (for instance I was looking at the basic version of the Canon 100mm f/2.8). I've read some nice things about the Tamron here, and a coworker has that lens. Her insect shots out in the field are awesome.
