This orchid belongs to my husband and unfortunately the dog jumped over it and popped a bud off so it's not going to the show but the remaining bud opened mid week and I finally got some photos of it today.
I tried to take some artsy shots of it. What do you think? Which one do you like best?
It has a pleasant evening scent that is not overwhelming.
It is not hard to grow at all. LOTS of filtered light to get it to bloom-almost to the point of leaf burn, but it must be filtered and not direct. It loves semi-hydro.
This guy was outside the shadehouse all summer in our extreme heat (90s-100s) on many occasions. I just made sure it was under the Riverbirch tree which gives awesome filtered light much like a fully leaved Crepe Myrtle. It finally started to form the sheath about 3 months ago and it really started to grow when the temps dipped to the upper 50s at night. It goes inside the greenhouse anytime the temp is going below 55.
And to think, I thought it was a bit nippy this past weekend with lows in the high 60's.
Can I be sick now or later!! Our lows are hitting 0 Celcius and colder (32 F and colder) at night and we are having a warm and lovely autumn. Winters at their worse can get as cold as -40 (celcius and farenheit are about the same at that point).
But we dress for it and survive! And the orchids live inside AAALL winter
