Nope! You probably are trying to copy an image you saw before. Black backgrounds are easy to copy, but not easy to do correctly (I really need to get a few images together - maybe tomorrow?! ) Most pros actually use a different technique we could really over-use here if given a chance --- take a picture of some "nothing" greenish background, but WAY out of focus. Then print the picture in large size - large enough to cover the background of the orchid you want to photograph. Then turn on the proper lights (you have lights, don't you ) then shoot away. You MUST be sure to NOT cast a shadow of the orchid on the background print. Background guaranteed to be out of focus, because it is out of focus!

Black cliche! I'm insulted! What colour is the background of your avatar Ross? Looks pretty black to me or perhaps its my eyes!

Now I'll have to retake all my pics with a blue background until THAT becomes cliche.

I think this is a great thread, Helpful for sure.
I really enjoying looking at other people's photo's. But when it comes down to me talking photo's -- I find it hard, since the attention span is not there, I hate primming and props. I really like the fact others go the distance. Maybe 1 day i'll get there.

I don't mind any kinda background as long as the subject is nice and clear to view, Just me

Very sincere and honest. When you do get ready, let us know. I have spent hours on a single setup getting lighting right, etc.

I took a look but really have little to say due to what you were faced with. At a show you have no control over background, setup, lighting or anything else. I rather look at photos you did at home where you have some control. OK?
