Default some colors are so hard to catch but finaly

A good picture of my favorite waterlily .....I have been trying to capture the color all summer and it was just never right ....untill today its overcast outside and the bloom just opened and it was sitting on a leaf begging to be photographed so I ran inside before the light could change and got the camera and wow it turned out well this is actually the true color of this nymphaea named Mayla. Now if I could just post the scent it is also one of the nicest cultivars for scent too.

And I have to say it is truly nice to have something in the yard I dont have to water....LOL

Wow, nice and symmetrical too. Beautiful, great pic. Do you know how to reproduce these results?

actually I dont.I am not that good with the camera and I simply waited for a good bloom and a overcast day I have taken a lot of pictures to finaly get this result and realy I think sometimes it is just that alone. Take lots and and lots and experiment with light.

I do know it realy helps to have a overcast day that is still fairly bright but No shadows for this color to come out right in the picture.I tried and tried inside with a bloom I had picked and got varied sucess but any flash kills it and back ground makes a huge difference too.

I got very very lucky and it was just ready to be photographed I guess.

I know how hard it is to catch some colors. But I use this trick. I take a lot of pictures in different light, then I choose the most accurate one. In Photoshop I use selective colors... and I pick the color I want to correct, like blues or reds. By modifying the amount of cyan or yellow etc. you can obtain the right color.

The risk is to affect the other colors in the picture, but some time it's not noticeable.

Thanks Maria

yes they do and that was the problem in every picture they just did not come close to the grab you and make you go WOW that it really was untill this one came out so well and it is truly hard to get pictures of a waterlily if its overcast ..they dont open on rainy days usualy and its hard to catch one opened this nice with that light because of that.

Just gorgeous, John. I'm so jealous. My favorite place in our Botanic Gardens is the lily pond. If I could keep some in a barrel or something, I would. Thank you for sharing with us!

Izzy in fact you can...they have smaller varities and in fact this one is a real monster once established in a mud bottom pond but gets smaller and actually adapts to the size of the pool it is in.And then there are miniture and dwarf types too
