I already don't have time to mess with photos, let alone mess around with RAW to jpeg. I have tried it in the past, maybe I'll look into it some more.

As for Photo sites, takea look at Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket
It's free and easy to work with.

Since alternative artificial light introduces all the problems with white balance, try taking you pictures outdoors. Use the camera's time release to avoid shaking the camera when you push the shutter release thus introducing more blur.
I personally find the flash quite useful at times. For indoor photos and even some outdoor, they allow the flower to "pop" from the background. And many times, I simply would like the background to be obscured by darkness as much as possible.
Each to their own.
EDIT: Then again, a point could be made about it being ineffective at a certain distance. Unless you have a pretty big flash set, I wouldn't go above 100mm with a flash.

Now of course, if you are going for a good bokeh, outdoor is the way to go. In fact, I'd use the lens with the greatest focal length reasonably possible. 100mm (give or take) is fine. Then you can twiddle with the aperture from there.
