I actually like the darkness of the photos. Looks like you took the photos in the deep dark tropical rainforest.
Colors look good I think.
Can we see larger versions of the pics? I use photobucket to post pics from my D40 since I have to resize them to ridiculously small pics to load them directly to orchid board.

Swamper, have you tried the RAW method of capture yet? Have you tried Nikon Capture NX2 yet? It's possible to adjust the focus of your photos by selecting the focus point. Try it free for 30 days, then if it works for you just purchase it. If you need some specific help, just PM me and we'll start a free private lesson

I look at the RAW and it intimidates me a little since there is so much going on for my simple mind,I'm uneasy about learning something else. but its definitely something I am keeping an eye on and plan to check it out.
Capture NX2...not yet, haven't tried.
