A last photo tip - unless you are using fully manual modes, the camera will probably want to raise the ISO when you stop down, in order to compensate for the decreased amount of light getting to the sensor. Don't let it do that, if it goes too high you'll get noise ISO noise. For perfect photos (noise wise) I set it at ISO 100 or 200, and usually never above 400 for macros. If I had a full frame camera I could go higher without issues.

The equipment is necessary, but the photographer's eye is critical to get the wonderful result. One could say that the equipment is "necessary but not sufficient" to get those shots.

This picture was taken with f=8.0

I was trying to capture the sparkle in the flower of my Dendrobium, if you look at the full sized picture I think you can see the sparkle.

The throat has darkened up a bit too so is a great macro candidate I think

you have to zoom in on the full sized picture to appreciate it fully

You captured the sparkle/glitter (aka crystalline flash look) really well. Very nice shot.

santa came a little early this year and brought me a new camera!!! im stoked as i haven't had a decent camera since retiring the old nikon 35mm years ago. so i got me a special effect macro lens from lensbaby and am learning how to use it. for those who don't know lensbaby products, they make unique art photo type lenses. the velvet 56 is what i went with for my foray into their product line and this series puts a dreamy glow at higher apertures (around 5.6 is where you start to lose/gain the effect). anyways, i will try not to spam the board with photos, but also excited to get more serious about the art and combine it with my love of orchids!

For those of you wa ting a macro lens take a look at your mobile phones, I was pleasantly surprised to find a macro lens within mine.
It was under the heading 'More' in the camera section.
