Always. I'm using a cheap digital, but I know it can take some good ones if I were to just learn a bit. I currently use the shotgun approach - take a ton of pictures, and get lucky once and a while.

See, that's what has gotten lots of folks in trouble. Sorry. If all you want is usable family photos, that works. If you want to move beyond that (and most here do, or they wouldn't be seeking answers) then an understanding of the basics is required. There were a couple posts early that summed several of these up. If you are asking how to get better, then we need specific questions and, hopefully, photos that illustrate the questions.

Yeah, that's why I'm just kind of just cruising these threads - I need to wrap my head around the basics. I was slowly making my way to the oldest posts, maybe I'll start with the oldest instead. Thanks.

Ross, I can see the hairs standing at attention on the back of your neck from all the way down here.....relax, big guy. You're going to get your blood pressure up and then I'll have to come all the way up to Cadillac to make a house call to be sure the chids are ok after you've passed out on the floor!!!!!

You know the chids worry about you so...and this isn't good for flowering!!!!

I couldn't get up in the morning without a good cup of coffee. We grind our own beans.

And you are helping, Ross. Everybody's tips have been really helpful. Yesterday I took some time at that Bonsai photo tips site that's linked somewhere (sticky maybe?). That evening I did a little experimenting, changing only my new knowledge (no new equipment, just a Nodak Sleezy Share and a cheap-o tripod). So far I've been very pleased! Instant inprovement! Lots to learn still, I'll take info from anyone willing to give it.

I completely agree. I picked up quite a bit of knowledge here (I knew zero before!) and I am amazing myself with what I can do with the same exact camera. There's one pic that I can't even believe I was the one that took it! It's still not perfect, but much better than what I was doing before.
