It actually has a ridge on its back , It was bred in the old Rhodesia todays Zimbabwe for bush work Used extensively by the Rhodesian army. It can be a wonderful faithful friend but must receive training as soon as possible These dogs are not loners and usually require a mate to keep them happy

I don't have a good picture of her ridge but Rhodesian Ridgebacks all have ridges of hair growing in the opposite direction along their spines. These ridges are to be capped at each end by 2 swirls of hair. I got Kaya as a pet because her ridge doesn't meet the AKC standard.

They were bred in the Southern parts of Africa to protect plantations from lions and other large game so they are extremely bold. Kaya is a very good example of bold. However she has no pain tollerance. When she got spayed she was a real wimp about the whole thing. And forget about cutting her toenails. It's like you're killing her!
