My Fish Tank!

Here's a picture of my "almost finished" fish tank. Tomorrow, I have a few more plants coming. Then I will wait about a year and move everything around again. This time I gave them a beach (white area).It kind of looks like a jungle-island next to a beach of some kind. (I will hide the hardware, heaters and so on later on.) Oh, it is 75 gallon. Mostly Anubias, Java ferns, and bucephalandra. The fish are loaches and tetras. I have a pleco, corie cats, and a lone endlers, and undersize gold-fish (long story on those two), andone female betta.

I know nothing about fish or fish tanks except that when I visit homes with them I can get totally lost watching the fish dart around the tank and do their fishy stuff. I suppose that's sort of like watching TV, and enjoying the show, without knowing a thing about acting or production. Yours looks like a wonderful one. I hope it brings you joy.

Well I do have lots of Bucephandra, one of the only underwater flowering plants. extremely rare & expensive. Mainly from Borneo. Possibly fish are the pollinators. It has a little pointy bud and the fish nibble off the outer "petals" and expose the stigma.

What light are you using? Don't the plecos uproot and eat the plants?

Beamworks EX 0.10W Series LED Aquarium Light Freshwater Cichlid Marine FOWLR (48 Inch). I got it on Amazon, and as I remember it was deeply discounted.

The plants are all rhizome plants, and are all epiphytes, in other words the plants must be tied to something like a rock or branch. Insome cases I have tied them to plastic screens. They can also have their roots in the soil (gravel), but not the rhizome. These plants are also avoided by fish. I think they are tough or bitter.

Actually I am not as worried about the behavior of the pleco. I have 2 juvenile Dojo loaches who get in trouble any way they can. They are very curious and test anything.

I thought about it for quite some time last year and the year before. I really do not think the orchid would get enough light. I could possibly experiment this year with some phals. The "planted tank" story is a constant fight against algea blooms. Too much light and algea grows, to little light and your plants do not grow.

People who use high lights have all kinds of problems, and must adjust. But yeah, perhaps it is time to play around with the concept again. Maybe with sacrificial phals. I have a few not doing so well right now.

I wanted to put my phrags in the water (pond outside), but the light near the aquarium is not good for phrags, and adding light is adding algea. If someone can suggest a water loving/roots in water type plant that also loves low light, I can do it.
