Optimist, thank you for posting this thread! I had never heard of claw caps before and boy do I need them! I have 2- 6 month old kittens and some days I am covered in band-aids, lol, just hoping I can get them on working by myself.....Jean

They do have kitten size. My biggest problem is that she got bored easily. I would put one or two on and catch her again when she had calmed down. The biggest trauma was near the end when I told myself to just get it over. She was like a silky eel, she did gowl a few times, but she never used her mouth. I am not sure whether it is because I bottle fed this cat for awhile though. She generally calms down and starts to purr when I hold her.

Gag! I know just what you mean! We recently found out one of our 3 cats has diabetes. So now she needs to have some canned food as it is lower in carbs and higher in protein (along with insulin shots twice a day). We always fed them dry before, and I hate the smell of canned food. And they get it all over, can't seem to keep it on a plate or in a bowl. Just an adjustment we have to make.
This same cat had those claw caps several years ago as she was wrecking our furniture. But of course she is the only long hair cat of our 3 with the large tufts of fur between each toe. She had fur stuck in the glue and it took 3 people at the vet's office to get them on her. 1 to hold her down, 1 to get the cap ready and the other to get it on! Gave up on doing that!

We've been considering claw caps for our maine coon. Thanx for this article! Does scratching on posts reduce the life of the caps? I would think they're designed to withstand such abuse, but our cat is a post scratching fiend!!

So glad you learned about the horrors of declawing. We have convinced many cat owners not to declaw but sadly, some of them still say "so what? It's just a cat"

Makes me want to rush in and take their pets from them.

We were told clawing will wear them out faster. I agree, it is inhumane to declaw a cat. It removes the first digit of their toes. We have found those spray pheromones helped stop our cat from clawing the furniture. They are scent marking because they are insecure. (we have 3 cats and she was competing for her own space).

We are soooo fortunate that our cat only scratches his own furniture and posts. We have a scratch board for every room of the house, and anytime he scratches a rug or sofa he's not supposed to, we just pick him up and put him on a scratch board. He's very receptive to positive re-direction.

We bought those spray pheromones to keep him off the Christmas tree, but sadly, the little twinkly play-toys dangling from the limbs are just too much for him. We've taken to hanging special cat-proof ornaments from the lower limbs and just accepting that our tree will be knocked over a couple of times a year!

We have cat posts and condos, you name it but she wrecked a set of people furniture anyways. The only bad attribute of that cat (sigh).

I told myself I would never get another cat! But deep down I am a cat person more than a dog person even though I have 2 dogs (one described as "catlike.") I promised myself that once I got through this master's degree, and got a place to live I would indulge in the luxury of a new couch-- modern style-- at least 1,000.00, and a new nice wool rug. I have had a few nice good wool rugs. It was the dogs that messed them up though. I really think when it comes their time, I won't be replacing the dogs. They never were fully house broken. I'd take them on walks, bring them outside and so on, and in the morning a big wet spot or a pile of poop to step on somewhere. As nasty as cat's litter boxes can smell, I would rather clean them than walk into a dog poop with bare feet. I love my dogs, but like a husband who has made too many mistakes, I just don't want another. When I was homeless and lost my house, it was the dogs (not the cats) who kept me from getting a place to live. I think I will be the person with one cat, and a fish tank. Oh, but my home will be much cleaner.
