You can do it. The hard part is holding the animal. I took them out of my dog before. I used small scissors and tweezers. Look carefully and get them all. Main thing is never cut the knot only the tread.

I can't tell you how happy I am that your little girl is doing so well. Way back when, when you first posted about her, I honestly thought she was a goner. So happy everything turned out so incredibly well.

As for the stitches...no, no, no...call me a complete baby but I really don't think I could do it. I get queasy just watching stuff like that. When my husband had to get the stitches removed from his finger (after a table saw accident!) I had to turn around and not watch.

Just curious though...why only cut the thread and not the knot? Does it have something to do w/having something to grab hold of? Not that I'm ever going to do it...but I am curious.

If you cut the knot, just the knot comes off. The stitch will remain inside and may have to be dug out. It is easy to just cut the thread/line then pull the knot. As long as you do this there is no problem.

I think you can do it, but having had stitches removed from myself a number of times, I do know they can be sticky and sting a fair bit as they are pulled from the skin. I would suggest swabbing the area first with a non stinging disinfectant and that will soften each suture hole and make it not stick or pull as you try to remove it. It will be easier on kitty and you.

You won't need anything. The sutures are not in that long. Sometimes sutures can be in humans for a longer time on a bendable area and they will be slightly stuck. These should be ok. I think they will pull easily. Putting solution on the cat may make it more nervous before taking the sutures out. It will be quick and easy, just doing it. I would cut them all first, then pull.

I would not be doing that either. I would be afraid I would end up hurting her. Give me a friend or someone I don't know and I can handle anything. Give me a loved one or my pets and no way I just can't do it.

I am also glad she is trusting you now. It sounds like someone abused her before and that is why she don't like people to well. She knows you love her and took care of her that is why she loves you back the way she does, jumping on you crawling up you, making you laugh when you should be yelling at her for her bad habbits. But they were things she learned to stay alive till you found her. She is sure lucky to have found someone so loving and caring as you are. Most people would of just drove by and not even bothered.

I would worry that if it hurts or scares her, she may lose a bit of trust in the owner although like temporary. Rather than blaming a vet for her pain or fear. Not that you want a vet visit to be unpleasant either as they do have to go back for check ups and shots on occasion. Ours don't like it but behave better for the vet than for us. So getting any procedure done is easier and safer when our vet is handling it as they are almost impossible to hold down for hubby and me.

It's good to know she has an option since she would have to miss work to get them taken out at the vets. It's not hard and if she feels comfortable, it should not be that difficult. Please let us know how it all goes.
