I have a cat that is addicted to eating plants.

He's like a heroin addict, always trying everything to get a fix!! He has literally no self control!
And the worst part of it is that he can't stomach them; he always pukes! I watched him start eating a bonsai of mine, puked immediately, and started eating again!

I can't display my orchids anywhere below a six foot vertical jump for him, or he will devour them and deposit them on the carpet in a different location. (Usually on the BEST or WHITEST carpet!)

So I guess my question is, does anyone know of a cat 12 step program??

Or maybe AA for felines??

The only time I kept him away from my plants was when I made a spray from chili peppers and sprayed the plant. He still tried it and hurled it, but only once! He hasn't touched that plant since. I'm a bit scared to spray my orchids with such a potent mixture though.

Any thoughts here?? (My wife won't let me eat him, so that's out!)

Sorry to hear about your orchid-eating cat!
Maybe your (your wife's) cat is bored? Maybe kitty needs some new toys or a scratching post?

Hello Buds,

I'm sure it's not boredom. He is almost 12 and has been 'eating at the salad bar' all his life.

He has a little sister with whom he plays, but she pretty much leaves plants alone.
Oh well!

Can you put your orchids in one room and prevent him from going into that room? ..

What about getting him a catnip plant

Hi Dorothy,

The orchids are in the plant room and he is not allowed in, although he tries every time we go in there.
The problem is that I would like to display the orchids around the house when they are in flower, but they require a security guard 24 hours a day.

We have tried the catnip plant, but he puked that up everywhere also.

He is a vegetarian that can't stomach vegitation.

you can go buy oat grass and grow it for him. they should sell it at any big pet supply store. he will prefer to eat this rather than your orchid any day. he will still barf it up, but it is a lot cheaper to grow than your prized orchid plant! driggs

I am so laughing. . .I have had a similar problem with my two orange tabbies, Puma Booma and Jaspy Jasparto.

I only have two words of advice: glass enclosure.

try spraying the plants with neem oil. it's not poisonous but makes the plant taste so awful even pests leave them alone.

It just amazes me that we named our cats the same thing!!!!
I thought I was being terribly creative at the time

I had a polydactyl tortie that I named "Fuma", but my litte boy (he was 3 at the time) couldn't say her name. He called her Puma! So her name actually became a long string of words.. we called her "Fuma-Booma-Puma"

We turned it into a song we sang to her every morning.. Too funny!
Now, how weird is that?

I'd rather not grow any plants for him including oat grass, since all he does is hurl it on the carpeting.

I'm going to try some of the oil or pepper wax and see how that works.
Question though, can you spray the flowers? He seems to like them best. (I guess it's dessert before dinner for him.

)

By the way, he's a gray striped 17 pounder named Sebastian. Not fat, just BIG!
