if u like bettas and unique ones, plakats and crowntails, best to do is surf online and see if there are any breeders in ur area. u really dun wanna support Pets Mart and other large chain pet stores when it comes to fish... they are treated poorly, malnourished, and many times, unhealthy (could be sitting in that cup for who knoes how long...)

u can also consider female bettas. sisters raised together can get along fine. 3-4 max in a 10g makes a beautiful sight with other community fish as they can fend for themselves a lot better than the males can (if they get attacked)
