My Best Buddy Mort Male
Default My Best Buddy Mort

This is my buddy Mort. He's a Western Scrub Jay. We've been pals for about five years now. He started following me around the yard I take care of for a friend who is out of town a lot. Things got more intimate when I started putting peanuts out for our birds. At first he was cautious, but soon he was taking them out of my hand. He was soon landing on my head or shoulder as I was working. Now he comes in the house, sometime to eat, but mostly just to visit. He loves to just sit in a tree or shrub and talk. I've got his chortle and squak down pretty good. Don't know what we're saying to each other, but we sure can make a lot of noise together! Just in case you were woundering, he has never pooped in the house, or on anyone. Can't say that about some other pets I have. By the way, that's not me in the pic, it's my boss.

That is very cool. Much nicer than the mob of English sparrows that hangs around my back deck and scares off all the other birds in the vicinity. If only I could get one of the hawks in the area to be as friendly as Mort is...

That is so wonderful that you've made a BLUE feathered friend! And he's a bright, colorful conversationalist too!

I think this says a lot about you. . .all the most wonderful things, of course!

Mort is a beautiful creature and apparently brilliant, too! I think he is a wise bird to be friends with you. You are both fortunate to have each other! Thank you for sharing your pictures with us!!!

WOW That is just sooo cool!!! I bet that bird is smarter than your average Jay. Maybe he wants to be part of the human world? My coworker has a parrot and it likes to land on my head alot. Something it does not do with most other people. I take it as a sign of friendship. When I say hi to him it is a whistle (the way you wistle at a pretty lady) and follwed by two clucks of the tongue. Thats our way of saying hello. Birds are cool. Not dumb.
