I am his 3rd owner, he first belonged to a neighbor and they had him since he was a baby and they traded him to another neighbor for another bird for breeding purpose's when he was 21 years. The second neighbor was not taking care of him so I went there everyday for about 6 months to give him fresh water and food. My neighbor finally decided to give him to me and I have had him for about 12 years now. This is his last home. I have been told that he can live to be 60+ years.
There is nothing worst then caging something and not feeding it.

Dave, you're my hero for bringing Chico into your family! And taking such good care of him for all these years.

I've heard that these birds are a lifetime commitment and that they live 60+ years.

Chico is very lucky you came along!

Dave, Chico is just the cutest! And your such a great person for taking such good care of him! I have an African Grey (Congo) named Baby that's a little over ten years old. I managed my local pet shop for 9 years until almost 2 years ago and she arrived there right after I did. Unfortunately she came from a bad breeder and was so nervous at our shop that she began to feather pluck. Of course I had to buy her once I saved enough money but she still plucks. I know shes happy though so I don't worry about it too much. She has grown to dislike me however (she prefers males) and totally is in love with my boyfriend. She talks in my voice though so she can't think I'm too bad... well I thought I would share because bird lovers like bird stories! (At least I do )

Hi Sarah, I know what you mean about bird only liking male or females, Chico WAS like that. Iam still good friends with his original owner and they told me that Chico chased his wife around their pool table and would only go to him, I think that is why they traded him. When I got him he would only allow men to hold him. But now he loves my wife. So maybe Baby will come around too. Plucking can become more of a habit after awhile. I like the stories too!

Hey Dave,
Chico is so blessed to have found a 'forever home' with you!
Do birds ever 'look' their age? ie. grey feathers?

Grey feathers? - I guess that would make African Greys premature looking at a young age ...

Or salt & pepper Schnauzers... I wish my dog can live to 60!
Now I am thinking about getting a bird like Chico!....

Dave: Is Chico kissable and huggable? Or is that too painful...ouch...

Yes! he loves attention of any kind but with him other people around makes him nervous and he might bite.
