Aw thank you Natalie! Sarah is my dear heart, she has me wrapped around her dewclaw. She's going into surgery to be spayed in a couple of weeks and I'm already a nervous wreck!

How is Lucas doing at his age? Do you have a picture you'd like to share? I've heard that Sibes age incredibly well and are very robust even at advanced ages. I hope he's keeping you busy for many more years!

They definitely are hard work but I adore the Siberian temperament. They really are a breed apart.

Thanks again!

Just as an aside, I'm a member of a Husky board that is based in Great Britain with a LOT of Irish members. If you're interested, the board is Husky Owners - The Siberian Husky Forum. They have local meet-ups and lots of husky-related information.

Thank you for the link! I'll have to check that out.

He's very good for his age. He's had very few problems, very energetic, and still behaves like a mad puppy! One thing I learned about a little while ago is that it is common for huskies to suffer with zinc deficiencies. He used to get a few skin problems and it all went away when we started giving him a zinc supplement. I wished I'd known about it sooner! I would definitely ask your vet about it.

Awww... you must be so worried about having Sarah spayed! I always find it a little heart-breaking but it is the best thing for them.

I only have a few pics from a few years ago and unfortunately they aren't great. He's got one blue eye and one brown eye.

Oh what a beautiful boy!!!! I love the bi-eyes, they look so impish don't they?

I learned about the zinc issue on the husky board. I'm watching Sarah very closely for any signs of it. She gets a very varied diet so hopefully we'll escape that scourge. She loves broccoli and carrots--most any vegetable actually--and adores fruit, and is on good kibble, so hopefully she's getting enough of everything. My husband says she's a strange dog. She'll eat the steamed broccoli before the cooked chicken in her bowl. Go figure!

Check out the husky board, it's a great resource. Many members there have senior dogs, we have active mushers and pet husky owners from all over the world.

Thanks for the pic and give Lucas a scratch from me and a woooooo from Sarah!

Lol! They are mad for the fruit aren't they? Lucas is a picky eater as well.

I'd love to have a team of mushers! If only I had a big property and plenty of open space! There would definitely be a pack of huskies where-ever I went.

I will tell lupus Lucas that Sarah says hawwwoooooo!

Oh no, did I get his name wrong? Is his name LuPus and not LuCas? If I messed it up I'm so sorry.

Have you seen Karen Ramstead's team of registered Siberian Huskies? They run and finish the Iditarod and many other sled races. If you're interested, they're at NorthWapiti Siberian Husky Kennels, Alberta, Canada - Breeders of Champion Siberian Huskies and Iditarod Finishers . Her dogs are both show champions and working dogs. Classiest Iditarod team EVER!

No no! You didn't get his name wrong. I just like to call him lupus Lucas because he's loopy, but he also looks like a wolf (Canis lupus).

I'm reading the country hounds blog at the moment and getting too many ideas! You're a bad influence!

Please post more pics of Sarah! There can never be too many husky pics!

The last empress of china was seen eating large white fragrant Cattleyas in an Ambassador's party...the westerners took it that she was loosing her mind...the asians thought it was an aphrodisiac and found it cute...some dogs and cats eat grass to stabilize their stomach...then they vomit it out...I dont think orchids are poisonous...but the bacteria and fungi in it might get you sick if ingested

Sarah will be in for a serious scolding if she eats one of my orchids! But being a dog--and a Sibe to boot--one never knows. I also worry about the fungicide, insecticide, and fertilizer she would inadvertently consume while munching on my pretties.

Thanks Bud!

Natalie, do you use regular human zinc for Lucas? I can't find a canine version of zinc and wondered if I can give Sarah the human version if she ever needs it. If you have a canine version where on earth do you get it?
