How Do You Keep Your Orchids Safe?

a trained orchid protecting guard dog... a stuffed pet dog. I mean not a real stuffed dog, a foam filled one......my friend keeps a stuffed dog around the plants in the living room , them cats wont go anywhere near that stuffed dog or the plants

I have heard that decaying fruit let off gasses that can harm orchids. Also, what about a clothes rack to hang them on.

I don't appreciate my mellow "I only hack up an occasional hairball" cat enough!
I'm at a complete loss for suggestions.
I am however dumbfounded that a cat would eat those thick cattleya leaves.

I make an insecticide with garlic and hot peppers put through a blender, strained through a coffee filter and add a few drops of soap. Also, if you can provide pots of wheat grass and catnip, that might help.

My cat Jack is an eater of glue off of envelopes. Its crazy. He never bothers anything but the envelopes with glue. Wouldn't touch the self-adhesive type.
I can't tell you how many important things he chewed up. They look they have been through a shredder at the top.

Oh no!! I've NEVER heard of a cat doing that before! That's nuts.

Also, what about a clothes rack to hang them on.

I think I'm leaning that way... I'm trying to find a way to delicately tell my husband that I'm going to rig our windows with poles and orchids

Does anyone know if that Bitter Apple spray they sell at pet stores would harm an orchid?

I have always had cats. They do not touch any of my plants; I have always made sure that they have access to Grass. One of them (my avatar) goes in the garden and eats it himself, my other cat is incapable of eating by himself and I feed him 5-6 grass leaves a day. They also get 'malt'.

I'm with nenella. I have never had a cat that ate orchids or anything else valuable. Of course, my cats are indoor-outdoor cats. They have access to vegetation other than my orchids. In the summer my orchids are outside and my cats have access to them but do not bother them. It is the *#@%+ squirrels that are the bother.
