amano shrimp are great algae eaters, and really neat to look at, but are a bit sensitive to water quality.

a better freshwater shrimp species would be Neocaridina denticulata... otherwise known as the cherry red shrimp. they are considerably smaller, but they readily breed in freshwater, and will tolerate much worse water quality.

I've heard of those and sound cool! How small or should I say how large are they? I'm a bit reluctant to put any in my pond since the pond tends to dry out really quickly.

they get a max size of about 1/2"... if the pond dries out they wont make it... really neat little buggers.
