Default Lucky Me!!!!!

Well the neighborhood stray decided to have her litter of 5 under the bench seat on my front porch. After her kittens are old enough I will take her to vet to be spayed so this doesn't happen again. She extremely protective of her kitten and is mean as a hornet! I certainly don't blame her. So who want's a kitten or 2 or 5 in about 6 weeks.

I had to wait till she was hungry enough to leave the kittens. It's getting down in the low 50's so we tent the entire bench with a blanket.

They're all adorable!

With regards to stray/unsociable cats, we had success in the past with socializing them though it takes time.
If you haven't already I would spend a good half hour a day just being near(ish) them without encroaching too much on Mums personal space as it were. Maybe take a book to read and just sit, maybe put a nice snippet of food in-between you and mum.

Oh and give mum lots of squints whenever she looks at you, even turn your gaze away from her. (For those who are aware this is cat language for "I'm not a threat!")

This will help later when you need to get them all spayed

I'd love to take them all but it's too far and my own cat would probably have a fit
Best of luck with re-homing them though!

PS.... Horrible to mention, but get them tested for Feline Aids asap!

Hi Dave,

Good job looking after momma cat. Those babies need to get into good homes or wind up just like mom.

She is a beautiful mother. If you can get your hands on a cage and cover it with towels or a blanket put at a distance and gradually move closer to her,. A can of cat food inside to the back of the cage should get her to check it out keeping the door open she can go in and out (it will look like a den to her) she just may with the kittens go inside then you can catch them all. She sounds like a smart mom. Too fast and she'll move her family. Too slow and you'll miss out. Cans of good smelly cat food should get to her. I've helped my neighbor round up young strays but never found the mom or had known where she hid the babies.

Have you picked out names for them yet?
I would name one Vanda another Laelia. How about Milt for a boy, Phrag would be a good boy name.
I could go on...
