I've got one similar of Misty as a kitten looking into a Beta fish tank and debating going "fishing" with her paw.

Thank you for the kind words, too. Becky Jo, that is so true, we maybe rescuing a stray black kitten in the near future. I'll post pictures if we do.
I'll definitely give those some thinking, thanks!

Bless you for thinking of adopting a BLACK!

You have no idea how long they wait in comparison to the other kitties. Same for dogs as well. It's subconscious as well just poor circumstance- there's the old wives tales about them, but more often, it's that they blend into the back of the kennel. They just aren't as visible, and get overlooked quite often. I always make a point to take a good look at the adult blacks first.

Had black cats as a child, so I don't buy into the old wives' tale about them. Blackie was the sweetest, most gentle cat. Unlike Sootie, who was vicious. He put up with you stoking his head, occasionally scratching his chin, but only if my Mum was around. If we happened to be on vacation, well you just gave him his food and pretty much a wide berth. No belly rubs for this one, not if you liked your skin on your hand, and Mum couldn't even in fun say sic'em to this cat. He was Attack trained, I swear. But he was loyal to us and never just vanished like Blackie did(cause no one else could pick him up maybe?).

My husband & I love black cats too! Unfortunately we lost our 'Saba'exactly one year ago this week
she got run over... we 'knew' it was going to happen one day as she wouldn't stop going over the fence & the main road... she was 4 yrs old..... her brother is fine & would never dare try and go over the fence or anything and he has a 'new brother' to keep him company since his sister disappeared. Both males are sterelized and wouldn't dream of trying to go anywhere past the fence (luckily)
which makes us happy as all other cats I ever kept lived passed the ages of 14/16 which is a good life for cats..

I feel for your losses Nenella and Sonya. I'm glad it hasn't kept you from adopting more!

No, It would never stop me as I am totally against having only one cat, one fish ...one of any species..... As even though 'we think' we're giving the the best ever life I strongly believe they have their own world & language and need a partner of their own specieces to be able to communicate & enjoy true life...... therefore filling in our human 'lapses' ...

I agree- there's always the anomaly, of course. But yes, my old shelter even gave a discount if you adopted two cats instead of one- if they got along.

As for fish, my Betta chills alone in his 3gal, since I'm tired of the hassle of other fish getting him sick. I can't wait to get a bigger tank someday that I can have some schoolers in though.

I've given up on fish, unless it's battered and served with chips and lots of malt vinegar. I feel awful because I can kill ones that are supposed to be indestructible (pleco's).
My avatar is most definitely a mastino/ Neapolitan mastiff. She was just 3 yrs old when she passed while under sedation to have a broken tooth removed. Needless to say, it broke my heart. We were looking to breed her that year for the first time.
We also abide by the two of a species minimum rule. Right now, we have 2 dogs, 4 leopard geckos with 4 eggs incubating, and 2 bearded dragons. I now have a few small to medium sized aquariums that are looking for some new occupants(maybe some orchids).

I'm so sorry about your sweet girl- I'm sure she was a gentle giant while you had her.

What an excellent rule! Kudos! Wish I had room/money for a large tank, or orchidarium. That won't happen for a looooong time though. (yay college debts....)
