I don't get those huge palmetto bugs here. Of course, there are lots of other nasty things to take their place

When I was a little kid,I kept spiders, bugs, box turtles, anything I could catch,in cages in my bedroom. My understanding parents nurtured my fascination in nature and for this,I'm very grateful.I have some fond memories of babysitters running screaming from the house.I have several spiders living in the light garden for pest control at present, much to the chagrin of my wife.A small lizard would be nice, but I don't think it would survive our siamese cat,or my wife.

Default Lizards

In our area anoles are quite common. They change colors from bright green to brown to grey. A few days ago one was on our stainless steel smoker next to the black plastic bag it is kept covered with and he was about as black as he could get. I had never seen one so dark before. We do have skinks which are black but are shiny. We have another lizard which is a pinkish color. One of those hangs onto the window screen by the table lamp at night. Prime territory for its preferred insects.
The only problem for the anoles, in my case, is my cat who just loves to eat them.
