My poor poodle Joey had emergency surgery today.
My poor poodle Joey, whose picture is in my previous pet depot post, had 3 hour emergency surgery today.
Just now heard from the vet that he is awake and alert.
He got hold of a corn cob from the trash, ate it and a 1 X 2 piece got lodged in the opening from his stomach to his small intestine. It was a close call because dogs go downhill fast but so far he's holding his own and is in stable condition.
The house is soooo quiet and Genie and Luke keep searching the house for him.
Please, for the sake of your doggies-- watch out that they don't get hold of corn cobs!

As for Joey, today was his lucky day. He pulled through the surgery without any problems, that's the greatest of all! I'm happy to read this nice news and sorry to read about the anguish you went through until then.

Thanks Sandy.
I seem to remember you had some anguish with your pets too (?) so I really appreciate your concern.

Oh no! I am glad Joey is doing well after his ordeal - I know how empty the house is when one of the fur kids is missing
Keep us posted

Thanks everyone!
I just got back from the vets and Joey is doing really well.
He is young and healthy so that is a definite plus. He's not very happy about the IV catheter is his leg but otherwise seems ok.
There is no permanent damage to the stomach or intestinal tissue so he will hopefully come home in a few days.
I knew it was serious when my crazy, happy, wildly irrespressible pup just crawled into his crate and lay there. He even turned up his nose at peanutbutter!
The piece of corncob they removed wasn't even that large, but it had completely blocked the passage from stomach to small intestine.
From now on we are not letting corn on the cob into the house!
Thanks again!

That's the best news we could hear, Bingo! Please give Joey a hug and a pat on the head from his uncle John, and dog kisses from cousins Cody, Hannibal, Ripley, Champ, Sully, and Danny.
