This puppy just amazes me. The adoption center warned us that he is agressive toward other dogs because of a dog in his former foster home which was mean to him. To check him I went and got Sully, who came from the same center and is BIG, rough, and came with a similar reputation for agression. (Sully, by the way, is Mr. Mellow now that he and I have worked together on his issues.) Within minutes the two dogs were playing, and have quickly developed a wonderful friendship.
But what really amazes me about Daniel is his spirit. When the car ran him over, I've been told, the driver intentionally hit him. In fact, swerved toward him. He was laid up for months. Three legs were broken, along with some ribs and internal injuries. Daniel, though, decided to recover. He's got a lot of the puppy-age uncoordination still in him, and that adds into his trouble learning to walk, run, and play with only one front leg. But when he falls, he springs right back up and keeps going. There is a joy, both on his face and in his soul, that is rare!
Already, I can't imagine how we managed with just five dogs. Each brings a gift to our home. Daniel's gift, though, is strongest - it's going to be pretty hard to have a reason to feel sorry for myself about anything when I watch this bundle of happiness and energy totter along on three legs!
