Yes, lots of folk think that its a species of ant, or possibly beetle that is only found in their native habitat.

Very interesting! Is it only with this specie or all dart frogs are not poisonous in captivity?

The rule extends to all poison dart frogs, but with varying degrees. Phyllobates terribilis for instance remains pretty poisonous anyway.

A famous brazilian ecologist, Augusto Ruschi, died after bein poisoned by a Dendrobates in the forest. He was old aged and not in good health, then suffered a hepatic failure and died some time after the contact with Dendrobates. Ruschi devoted his life to nature protection and study, including orchids and mainly the hummingbirds.

That sucks!! Even in nature not all of them are poisonous enough to kill people. Some are, such as P. terribilis. I think that one might be the most poisonous vertebrate on the face of the planet.

Blue ringed octopus of Austraila. I saw it on Nova on PBS last week. PDF's most likely are #2!

Hmmm.... I like dart frogs. They look like jewels. My favorites are blue dart frogs and green and black frogs. But I feel it is better not to keep them at home.
