Thanks everyone, for your kind comments. It helps a lot. Animals have a way of getting into our hearts so quickly so it's horrible when they go. In was especially tough since I'm not home. Mom called me monday to say that he was sick, tuesday to say he was at the animal hospital, and today to say he was dead. That was sudden and unexpected.

Camille I am so sorry. We are always sad when we lose a pet. Last one we lost was a beloved Airedale that died too soon of heart failure. Our sadness did not lift until DD and I bought DH an Airedale puppy for his birthday. Then we were all too busy to be sad! It might lift your spirits to rescue another one. Guinea pigs are the sweetest little creatures. DD always has one. They have all had different personalities but all are the sweetest little animals.

Oh Camille...I'm so sorry to hear of your loss
You and your family gave him a good life and he knew he was loved...and he loved you too.
I know it's hard but try to get your mind back on your tests, it's very important and may even help keep your mind occupied with something other than the sadness you feel right now.
We're all thinking of you

Bless your heart, Camille! The sadness and emptiness seems to go on forever. You are a gentle soul with a tender heart.
No other animal will ever replace your sweet baby. The memories will be yours forever to cherish.
I hope another gentle friend finds your love soon.

Camille, I am so sorry to hear of Noel's passing. Know that he was loved and gave you much happiness. Your love and kindness will be returned 3 fold and remember that he will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge.
Al, who stills mourns the loss of Reboot last October.
Although another loving animal has come into my life, Reboot will always hold special memories.

Sorry to hear of your loss, Camille!
A friend of mine is very attached to her "piggies" too. She's had a couple of close calls (and one loss) but one thing that has helped her is that she keeps very close tabs on their weight. She weighs them at least a couple times/week. From what she's told me, weight loss is generally one of the earliest indicators of health issues -- and we're talking even a loss of a few grams.
I don't know if you will chose at some point to adopt another 'pigglet', but if you do, here's a forum (you might already know about but just in case you don't) that the friend of mine found to be very helpful:
The Cavy Compendium
