I'm so sorry.

A hard thing to do, and I feel your sting. Like Ray mentioned, "family".

I've been wresting with making the same decision. A tough one indeed, for a faithful companion that always radiates love and provides so much comfort and joy.

Kind of ironic... recently caught a movie on television while trying to escape making that hard decision. It pulled on my heart strings: "A dog's purpose" with Dennis Quaid.

I'm so very sorry. I know from experience how painful it is to make that decision, but we do it out of love, because we want to spare them any further pain or suffering. They take a big piece of our hearts with them, though, don't they. Rest peacefully, Pete........

if it helps you, i will share this.

Pete had a lot of life left but only above the neck. His body was atrophying and with his other ailments it was as much a reprieve as anything.

He had enough of his faculties that he never lost his doggy dignity and he never suffered.

I knew as i held him and helped him to the other side that there was not going to be a better time than at that moment. that gave me a lot of comfort

I also must add, my very best human friend since kindergarten is a veterinarian and lives 20 minutes away- He came over after hours and we did it in pete's bed, super comfy and safe- this is not a luxury most people get to have but it was unspeakably helpful for me in knowing the dog was not also scared and on edge.

If you have a close relationship with your vet, they maybe willing to do a house call for the same purpose.

god bless and good luck in the very tough decision.

Thank you DC.
It is cruel and unfair but when they needed us the most, we loved them enough to let them go.

DirtyCoconuts 12-04-2021 07:54 AM

Amen. Well said, friend you

Condolences.

Had to do the same on Monday.

I am very sorry for you, too.

We had to make that decision for our darling American Eskimo dog this past February and it left an Eskie-sized hole in our hearts.
