Orchids and cats
Red face Orchids and cats

Are orchids the cats of the plant world? Their beauty is majestic and mesmerizing, yet they are mysterious and misunderstood. Earning the trust of a cat is much like earning the rewards (blooms) of an orchid... it takes lots of patience and willingness to adapt your environment to their lifestyle. And sometimes they can both be finicky, yet we love them anyway.

Are orchid lovers also cat lovers because we don’t want affection or rewards just handed to us? We want to work for it? We appreciate the spectacular blooms that an orchid displays after we’ve patiently worked hard to take care of it the same way that we appreciate the sweet affection of a cat after we’ve been patient enough to build its trust?

One of my cats ate every last bite of a 35+ fan specimen of Vanda (Neofinetia) falcata 'Suminagashi'.

Well, at least it’s non-toxic.
