Right? Of all the dogs I've owned, bred, raised, and lived with I realize not one was a herder. Makes me feel like I've really missed out on something very special. A part of me really wants to be herded now...

Remember, herding sometimes means heel nipping. That's why they're called Queensland Heelers.

They do it differently too! Banjo would nudge with his head and shoulders at your ankle and he was really good at doing it as your foot was landing so he would move your stride over an inch or two. Then he pushes in from the other side and so on and so on....

A buddy’s GSD would literally nip at heels to make you move. The only way to make her stop was to pretend you were a horse about to buck! Haha you had to raise your leg real fast and make a quick move like she was about to catch a hoof lol

My vet buddy told me that would never work on the corgi bc they were bred to be below the hooves and have no fear of being kicked haha

I love dogs

We had a neighborhood dinner group. Four families would host, and three other couples would bring assigned stuff to each of the four locations - we rotated to get to know everyone better.

The dinners usually included a cocktail hour and Christmas and Halloween were usually just cocktail hours, and our BC would herd people. Usually they didn't even notice it until they were all bunched up.

When she was young she knew she wasn't supposed to nip heels, but she couldn't help herself. She would do it, then look at me with her ears submissive, eyes ashamed, making a weird noise between a growl and a moan. "DAD! I couldn't help it!"

Yeah, I get that feeling myself from time to time. Sometimes a little nip just’s gotta happen.
