Default Orchid Home Made Remedies for "This or That"

I thought it would be a great idea to learn about home made remedies that people have used or discovered for the treatment of various issues. It would useful, I think, for all of them to be in one thread instead of all over the place.

If you know of a home made remedy that might help others, please contribute! Also, please include what the remedy is for, how you've used it and any precautions such as "not getting on roots".

Thanks for your input! I'll post one I know of first....

This is a General Purpose Bug Spray:

Fantastik or Formula 409 – Add 1 cup of the household cleaner/degreaser, with 1 cup of rubbing alcohol, and mix with 2 cups of water. This solution can be sprayed directly on all affected areas. (But not roots)

Willow water
Gather as many young (green or yellow) leafless willow branches, chop them up and mash them in a bowl of a water. Submerge them all in hot water and allow to sit for the night. When you want to use it, simply strain and soak the plant in the solution for at least an hour.

I've used this to root many plants ; it works better on cuttings but generally will induce new roots on phals that wouldn't otherwise grow them.
