Default Rotting Degamoara; opinions on rhizome, please!

Degamoara Winter Wonderland: oldest pbulb rotted, next oldest ones starting to rot, seems to be advancing up the rhizome. I went to cut off all growth with any rot, but after doing so, am concerned about the appearance of the rhizome where I cut it (as close to the seemingly good pbulb as I could) - the darkened perimeter looks concerning to me. Mostly I am looking for opinions if this is worth potting, or not. Also including photos of the obviously rotting part, and the two small pieces left, but those are showing the darkened perimeter on the rhizome.

Thanks for your help!

I think it looks fine. You could wash the roots in hydrogen peroxide and water, or sprinkle with a little cinnamon, let sit for a while then wash off.

Isopropyl alcohol is really great for drying and disinfecting (70% or higher is best). I also have found that it helps to stake the cattleyas and certain others that are prone to rot on top of the media, with just the roots going down into the media. Good luck, I hope your orchid recovers quickly and gives you some of those gorgeous blooms!

thanks - I'm concerned that it's a systemic rot in the rhizome ...

I think there are systemics for this sort of thing. I have never had this problem but I have read of systemics used to stop the infection. Hopefully, someone will give you a name. I thought this was something like brown or black rot for which alcohol does work. I wouldn't pot it up until it is recovering.

thanks it may be fine, I just wasn't sure about that dark ring around the rhizome - I've never really paid attention when I have divided healthy plants, so don't know if it's normal or not

My first thought was fusarium as well. That dark ring on the cut spot.
Get rid of (or burn) all affected parts and the old media.
Are plants in the last two photos a division from the main rotting plant?
As long as there is no dark ring on the cut portion on that smaller division, the plant should be fine, but still, treat the whole plant just in case and for the sake of other plants you have.
Fusarium is very serious.

By the way, washing with hydrogen peroxide or alcohol doesn't help much as this disease is spreading inside your plant.
You will need systemic chemical to fight against it.
